The Transit of Venus, which I don’t think we’ll actually be able to see today because it’s completely gloomy, was discovered in Providence, Rhode Island. Two streets here, Transit Street and Planet Street, are named after its discovery. What I find odd, though, is that they didn’t call one of them Venus Street instead.
