Leona Naess, “Charm Attack”
Glancing over my Best Songs of 2000 list and remembered this one (it was #43). Leona Naess was a major-label artist that I think a lot of money was put into promoting and I think I heard her on the radio maybe twice and mostly because I listened to radio a lot in the middle of the night back then. “Charm Attack” is really good, though, and mysteriously it’s still in just about every karaoke songbook I’ve ever seen. I’ve never done it, though, partly because I don’t want to be the guy that sings songs nobody knows and partly because the opening verses are kind of hard to pull off with their dullness. This song is all chorus.
